Snapdragon 4 and 6 Gen 1 official
Qualcomm's unveiling of two new CPUs for mid-range smartphones completes the SoC family denoted by the new nomenclature, which began with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. The final two components, the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, are subsequently released. The most perceptive individuals will recall that the first has been expected in recent days, but today we finally have access to all of the official information.
SNAPDRAGON 6 GEN 1
So let's start with the more powerful of the two ideas, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. A SoC manufactured at 4 nm can deliver up to 40% more CPU performance than the previous generation, while a +35% increase in graphics performance is recorded, again compared to the SoC of the same previous range, allowing for HDR gaming experiences with frame rates exceeding 60 fps and support for Variable Rate Shading.
Due to the implementation of a triple 12-bit ISP that supports sensors up to 108 MegaPixels and enables shooting at up to 48 MP with minimal shutter lag, there are also new photography opportunities. Additionally, it is possible to capture 4K HDR video at up to 30 frames per second, a feature traditionally reserved for more expensive SoCs.
In terms of connection, the 6 series offers complete support for the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 platform and the modem Snapdragon X62 5G, which is capable of delivering full 5G (including millimetre waves) and Wi-Fi 6E for the first time. This also represents a significant leap in the realm of artificial intelligence, where the seventh generation Qualcomm AI Engine enables a threefold improvement in performance compared to previous generations. Additionally, Quick Charge 4+ is offered. The prerequisites are described in detail below.
