People with asthma may have a higher risk of heart disease.
In the study, published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Heart Association, the researchers found that those in the study who were suffering from asthma had higher levels of inflammation despite the use of the drug in their blood.
An increase in the level of inflammation means that it can have negative effects on the heart system, which causes the accumulation of fat in the blood vessels that go to the brain.
According to the results of the study, 67 percent of the participants who were suffering from asthma had fat in their arteries, while 50 percent of those who suffered from this condition or those who did not have asthma at all had fat in the arteries.
"Many physicians and patients don't believe that swollen respiratory tracts caused by asthma can affect the arteries," study lead author Dr Matthew C. Tattersall said in a news release. Therefore, it can be very helpful for patients with persistent asthma to pay attention to cardiovascular factors.
Researchers studied health data from nearly 5,000 people with an average age of 61.
