Review : Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

“A bank robber. A hostage drama. A stairwell full of police officers on their way to storm an apartment. It was easy to get to this point, much easier than you might think. All it took was one single really bad idea.” 



That pretty much sums up synopsis of the story. Chaos ensues when eight anxious strangers at an apartment viewing are held hostage by an equally anxious bank robber. Two policemen trying to defuse the situation. One anxious to catch the culprit and the second concerned for the other’s wellbeing. They have no idea how their lives are going to get entangled in the next few hours. 

‘Anxious people’ is a restoring-your-faith-in-humanity-kinda book. Fredrick Backman takes you through the fears, traumas and anxiety of each character and creates and empathetic and relatable bond with the readers. You cannot help but feel compassionate for these people. Their quirkiness and sometimes downright stupidity make you smile.  

It’s an unlikely story and as the author says, a story about idiots. It’s not written to astonish you but to calm you. Lighten your heart. To tell you that we all have messy days. We all commit some extremely stupid, embarrassing mistakes. It’s okay to have fears. If you are looking for a light, heart-warming read, then this book is definitely for you but it will also make you cry a little.

Brutal crackdown by the government could not deter people from coming out of their homes and heading towards Islamabad

 The government’s crackdown on PTI workers and supporters made it clear that they have decided to stop PTI’s Independence March at all cost. News reports say more than 1,000 PTO workers and activists have been arrested.  The government has called in the Rangers to maintain law and order in Islamabad and other major cities of the country, including Karachi. All entrances and exits to and from Islamabad were shut down, as was traffic between Lahore and the Twin Cities. The government has also instructed transport companies not to offer buses, cars, or vans to PTI workers. The manner in which Shahbaz and its allies are using state apparatus to prevent people from participating in the march is not acceptable.  The #WeAreComingKaptaan hashtag tells us that brutal crackdown by the government could not deter people from coming out of their homes and heading towards Islamabad.  Look what this government is doing spreading broken glasses on the road.

 DDR4 memory is found on most personal computers. The next generation memory standard is coming out. Computers users expect increased performance and optimal power consumption  in the new chips.  If we focus on raw data, the main changes include a reduction in the voltage from 1.2V to 1.1V, and the 8n prefetch buffer will be replaced by 16n prefetch buffers, i.e. 16 bits per hour will migrate from memory cells to the IO buffer, while performance will be scaled from 3.2 Gbps to 6.4 Gbps per I/O connection.
